Meet Your Parenting Coach

I am an undergraduate, studying psychology at SACAP and a single mom of 12 year old twin boys. I have been raising them by myself since they were 18 months old. My best friend introduced me to Positive Discipline when they were 3, and at the time, I foolishly thought it was too much work.Fast forward 7 years, and I found myself asking: "if this is what I'm dealing with now, what on Earth is it going to be like when they're teenagers?" Luckily, my best friend reminded me of Positive Discipline, and this time I took the time to listen to the books. It was life-changing!The changes were profound, and happened so quickly! And what I loved most of all, was the way it was teaching me about myself, my own childhood and my style of parenting.I knew deep in my core that this way of parenting would be beneficial to so many people out there, especially in this fast-paced, tech-dominated world of ours. So I decided to get qualified, and see who I could help. I honestly believe that raising children right, is the way to change the world.Let me help you change yours.

FAQs

What Is Positive Discipline?

Positive Discipline is a parenting approach that teaches children important life skills such as responsibility, cooperation, problem-solving, and self-discipline through connection, encouragement, and mutual respect. Rather than relying on punishment or rewards, Positive Discipline helps parents build strong relationships while teaching children to become capable and resilient individuals.

Does Positive Discipline Work?

Yes. Positive Discipline is based on the work of psychiatrist Alfred Adler and psychologist Rudolf Dreikurs and has been used by parents, teachers, and schools around the world for decades. The approach focuses on long-term results by helping children develop self-discipline, responsibility, and intrinsic motivation rather than simply complying out of fear of punishment.

How Is Positive Discipline Different From Gentle Parenting?

Both Positive Discipline and gentle parenting value connection and respect, but Positive Discipline places a strong emphasis on being both kind AND firm at the same time. Parents learn how to set clear boundaries, follow through respectfully, and teach responsibility while maintaining a strong relationship with their children.

Can Positive Discipline Help With Tantrums?

Yes. Positive Discipline helps parents understand the reasons behind tantrums and respond in ways that reduce power struggles and build emotional regulation skills. Instead of focusing on stopping the behaviour in the moment, parents learn tools that help children develop the skills needed to manage big emotions over time.

Can Positive Discipline Help With Backchat?

Positive Discipline can help parents respond to backchat without escalating conflict. Rather than reacting with punishment or arguments, parents learn how to stay calm, set respectful limits, and encourage cooperation. This often leads to fewer power struggles and more respectful communication over time.

Can Positive Discipline Help With Sibling Rivalry?

Yes. Positive Discipline provides practical tools for reducing sibling conflict, teaching problem-solving skills, and helping children feel a sense of belonging and significance within the family. Parents learn how to avoid taking sides and instead guide children towards respectful solutions.

How Do I Discipline My Child Without Punishment?

Disciplining without punishment means focusing on teaching rather than controlling. Positive Discipline uses encouragement, respectful communication, problem-solving, and related consequences to help children learn from their mistakes. The goal is to build responsibility and self-discipline rather than fear, shame, or resentment.

What Age Is Positive Discipline Suitable For?

Positive Discipline can be used with children of all ages, from toddlers to teenagers. The principles remain the same, but the tools and conversations are adapted to suit each child's stage of development.

Are Positive Discipline Workshops Worth It?

Many parents find that Positive Discipline workshops provide practical tools they can use immediately at home. Workshops help parents understand behaviour, reduce conflict, improve communication, and build stronger relationships with their children while creating a calmer family environment.

What Will I Learn In A Positive Discipline Workshop?

In a Positive Discipline workshop, you'll learn practical parenting tools that help you:- Reduce power struggles and conflict
- Set firm and respectful boundaries
- Handle tantrums and big emotions
- Respond to backchat and defiance
- Encourage cooperation without rewards or punishment
- Build your child's confidence and resilience
- Strengthen your relationship with your child
- Create a calmer, more connected family life
You'll leave with strategies you can start using immediately, as well as a deeper understanding of why children behave the way they do.

Is Positive Discipline manipulative?

Jane Nelsen, co-author of the Positive Discipline books, often says that all parenting is technically manipulative because parents are trying to influence their children's behaviour. The important question is how we do it. Positive Discipline focuses on guiding children through respect, encouragement, and connection rather than fear, shame, punishment, or control.

Does Positive Discipline mean there are no consequences?

Not at all. Positive Discipline believes children learn best through respectful, related, and reasonable consequences instead of punishment. The focus is on teaching and problem-solving rather than blame and shame.

Is Positive Discipline permissive parenting?

No. Positive Discipline is neither permissive nor authoritarian. It teaches parents how to be both kind and firm at the same time. Children need warmth, connection, and empathy, but they also need clear boundaries, limits, and guidance.

Will Positive Discipline Make My Child Entitled?

No. Positive Discipline encourages children to contribute, solve problems, take responsibility for their actions, and learn from their mistakes. These skills help children develop resilience, accountability, and respect for others.

What If Positive Discipline Doesn't Work?

Like any parenting approach, Positive Discipline takes time and consistency. Many parents see improvements quickly, while deeper changes often happen gradually as relationships strengthen and children develop new skills. The focus is on long-term growth rather than quick fixes.

Is It Too Late To Start Positive Discipline?

No. It is never too late to improve your relationship with your child or learn new parenting tools. Positive Discipline can be effective with toddlers, school-aged children, teenagers, and even young adults. Small changes in the way parents respond can have a significant impact over time.

Does Positive Discipline Work With Teenagers?

Yes. Positive Discipline can be especially effective with teenagers because it emphasizes mutual respect, communication, problem-solving, and connection. These skills help parents maintain influence and strengthen relationships during the adolescent years.
